Federal officers raided Oaksterdam University – California’s first marijuana training facility – early Monday morning. Reports indicate that officials from the DEA and IRS raided the facility in Oakland before 8 a.m. along with U.S. Marshals. The building was cordoned off with yellow crime tape as medical marijuana supporters gathered outside.
According to local activists, Oaksterdam founder Richard Lee’s home was also raided. Reports have surfaced indicating that Lee was possibly in custody. Authorities would not confirm these reports. However, Special Agent Arlette Lee told SF Weekly that other locations were also being raided.
A press conference is expected later today. We’ll have more information as it comes in.
